Happy Halloween! Here’s my October update!
Hey there!
Hope everyone is having a great Halloween! It’s the end of the month but it’s still October! So here is my October update:
Milford Art Affaire
Thanks to everyone who came out to see me at the Milford Art Affaire! It was such a great event with wonderful weather. I was really moved by how many people had such emotional connections to my artwork. I really try to put my soul into each piece, and it means so much to me that my paintings resonate with so many people…
I also want to announce the winner of the Milford Art Affaire Print Giveaway… congratulations to Matthew!! The print will be shipping out soon.
Thanks to everyone who joined the list at the event to enter the giveaway. Stay tuned for more print giveaways for my email list in the future!
New Painting Techniques
For those of you who follow my Instagram (@jenldufauart) you may have seen a reel I made recently about a new painting technique. I’ve been experimenting with acrylic glazing over the past year as a way to add richer color and more depth to my works. I decided to take the plunge and do some practice using a technique from the old masters: underpainting with grisaille. This is a technique where you first paint your composition using only black and white paint. This allows you to first map out the values of your piece. Then color is built up using multiple layers of thinned out paint, this creates some really cool effects that you can see here:
I’m absolutely in love with the final result and plan on using this in a lot of my coming artwork!
New Painting Series
My last update is to share another painting series that I’m starting. I’ve started to group my paintings into different series that will be continuing alongside each other to help people better find concepts and themes that speak to them. My Meditation series and Mini Painting series are primarily inspired by philosophical concepts. I’m working on starting two new series inspired by religious themes: Symbolism of the Saints and Sacred Symbols. I’ll be working on these two in the next few months and will share my work as I finish. I also have long term plans to have a series focused on mythology and folklore.
My plan is to keep all of these series going and adding paintings to each one as I go. Let me know what you think!
